PARENT VOLUNTEERS

The success of our team is depends on the involvement of our parents.  Parent volunteers provide much-needed services at meets and coordinate committee events to support our team.  All parents are required to volunteer for at least two dual meets, plus Quals & Champs (if your swimmer swims at these).

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Certified Stroke and Turn Official: Volunteer needs to be familiar with the different swimming strokes.  We need 2 officials for each meet. LSA is offering official training sessions to teach you how to be an Official on the following dates (you need attend only one session).

Certified Computer Scorer:  During the meets this person inputs meet results into the computer, scores the results and posts on wall.  This shift starts before the meet starts and ends after the meet ends. We need at least 2 volunteers willing to learn this position. LSA offers a training session for this position.

Ribbons/Awards: 1-2 volunteers per meet.  This person takes the labels that the computer person prints for them, places them on ribbons and sorts the ribbons into our team boxes.

Timers: 6-8 per meet. 2 Timers sit at the end of the lanes and time the races with a stopwatch. They check the swimmers name against the swimmer on the sheet provided and write down the swimmer’s time in that event.

Place Judges:  The Place Judge will stand at the finish of the races and write the order that each lane finished in. They are there in case there is a dispute about the timers’ times.

Age Group Parent/Clerk of Course:  THIS IS AN IMPORTANT and FUN JOB!!!  2-3 Volunteers are needed in each gender and age group for each meet.   Age group parents are expected to keep their age group together, line the swimmers from their age group up for their events, take them to the start of their race and make sure they start their race in the correct lane at the correct time.  This person will be provided with an attendance sheet at the beginning of each meet that has all of the swimmers names and the events that they are in that night.  Many find it helpful to write the swimmers name on their back and the events that they are in on their arm in permanent marker. They’ll check in all of their swimmers in and report to the Coach if a swimmer does not show.

Meet Set Up and Clean Up: 3-4 people each meet. For away meets: set up team tents and signs, take down tents & signs and make sure team area is clean. For home meets: set up team tents and signs, set timer chairs, and take down after meet ends.

Team Photographer:  1 parent at each meet to take pictures.

Team Video:  1 parent who can put together a video set to music for the Team Banquet (photos are sent in by parents and the Team Photographer. Parent should be familiar with photo editing software (usually needed for a few photos) and video software such as iMovie.

Social Committee:  The social committee will plan and organize social activities for the swim team, such as Kick Off Party, Donut Days, Champs Pep Rally, and the Team Banquet.
